Honeynet-PT:About
From Honeynet-PT
The Project
The project was founded by a group of security professionals with the ultimate goal of researching the tactics, tools, techniques and motives of the black hat community, working in the project in a volunteer basis.
We have decided to join the HoneyNet Research Alliance and implement our own honeynets and honeypots in order to learn, study, do statistics, alert and inform the other alliance groups of new threats or trends, thus helping this international project achieve better results.
The project team is committed to a continuous effort and pressure toward achievement of better security awareness of the IT professionals and the general public in Portugal.
Audience
This site is intended for the security professionals or anyone involved in some way in protecting or securing computer resources.
Where you will find valuable resources and studies about unsolicited traffic to our honeypots and at the same time we will try to make you understand the real power and flexibility of this technology.
Occasionally we also might publish information addressed to general audience if such is deemed necessary from the project group members.
What is a Honeynet ?
Honeynet is a network of computers providing non-production services may be they real or virtual. Examples may be e-mail servers, websites, databases, domain name servers, etc. The infrastructure is prepared with the objective of monitoring and analyzing all the activity on those systems.
Since these are non-production networks and normally not advertised in any way, all the traffic going in and out of such a deployment is suspect by default, until the contrary be proved.
The use of real applications is of most importance for the research, because this way, any successful attack will represent a security fault in the application that, for example, may be running in thousands of Internet machines.
